If you’re stuck in a 9-to-5 job but dream of starting your own profitable online business, then you’re in the right post.
By starting a business, you get to work for yourself. No need to ask someone else for taking days off, no bosses breathing down your neck and freedom to do whatever you want and how much you want to earn.
Few years ago, even I was stuck in a 9-to-5 job, but the decision of starting an online business helped me get out of it. I quit my full-time job nearly 4 years ago, and honestly, there’s nothing like the freedom of working for yourself! But the journey won’t always be easy, and you need a solid plan to make it happen.
Many people on the internet stress about you needing to have this and that type of skill to build a successful online business, it’s not always true. You don’t always need special skills or magic to make this happen. All you need is a clear proper plan and will to make it work.
In this post, I’ll share you the five step process that helped me to quite my 9-to-5 job and build a successful online business that makes a full-time income.
Step 1: Don’t Quit Your Job… Yet!
I know it sounds boring, but don’t quit your job until your new business is making as much or more money than your current job. Trust me, this is important. If you leave your job even before your business starts to take off, you’ll probably end up nowhere and mainly your financial security will be lost.
If you talk about me, I actually quit my job when my business was only making around $3,000 a month. Even though it wasn’t much, but that was enough to cover my basic living expenses. But I had also saved up some money and that came in handy.
Everyone doesn’t have a good amount of savings to quit their job all of a sudden to build their business, so working on your business without leaving your job till starts making some good money is a key to success and financial security.
There is always a 50-50 chance of your business succeeding and failing. So, you can’t afford to leave your job without any hints of your business doing well.
Step 2: Figure Out How Much Money Do You Actually Need?
Most people don’t know their actual monthly expenses. If you want to start your business, start by calculating all your fixed costs like rent, bills, phone, and insurance. Then add in variable expenses like entertainment or dining out.
Don’t forget things like insurance, savings and taxes too. Once you have your total monthly expenses figured out, add a little extra amount for future growth or inflation and make that number your income goal to generate from your business.
When you know your number, it becomes really easy to pick a business idea that can cover your costs and grow beyond that.
Step 3: Find a Profitable Business Idea You Can Work on without Quitting Your Job
Now, it’s time to face the biggest question: “I want to quit my job, but I don’t know what to do?”
Here’s the thing! You have to make the time. I woke up early, worked during lunch, after work, and cut out distractions like TV and socializing just to build my business. Yes, it’s exhausting, but it will pay off in a long-term. So, trust the process and stick to it.
Now, about the business idea, start by following proven business models. For example, I followed bloggers making $100K?Year by copying their strategies and making them my own. My first year was slow, but on my second year, I made over $55K.
You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Find what works for others, learn it, and try it for yourself.

Step 4: Set Milestones and Timelines
Once you pick your business, set goals to achieve in a certain timeframe. For instance, you can ask ChatGPT to create a 90-day plan for reaching $4,500/month from virtual assistant work or any other business. Then, ChatGPT will create the plan for you based on your needs.
Remember, AI can give you theory and structure, but real success comes from learning from people who are actually doing what you want to do! So, find out people who are successfully making money from what you want to do and start learning from them.
Step 5: Trust the Process and Stick With It
Success doesn’t happen overnight. You have to trust the process, not just the progress. Even small daily steps, like sending an email or making a small change in your business website can add up over time.
If you want your business to grow, you have to water it every day otherwise it will dry up!
