Pinterest is a popular social media platform and a visual search engine with over 500 Million monthly active users. It is a great place to promote and grow brands, blogs, ecommerce sites, businesses, etc. So, iff you want to grow your brand, blog or any other businesses online, then Pinterest is a great platform to do so.
In this post, I’ll share 7 tips I personally used to grow multiple of my Pinterest accounts to thousands of followers. These tips are not copied and pasted from someone else’s blog or social media post. These tips are based on my own experience and accounts analytics.
First, let’s see why Pinterest followers are important.
Why are Pinterest Followers Important?
To be honest, followers on Pinterest don’t matter much compared to other social media platforms. Your main goal on Pinterest is to get views on your content. And there is no direct connection between followers and views on Pinterest. I have seen accounts with 50 followers getting millions of monthly views. So, if you’re someone who thinks more followers is the key to getting more views and conversions on Pinterest, then you’re wrong!
Even though there is no exact benefit of having more followers on Pinterest but here are some (partial) benefits of having a good amount of following.
1. From multiple research done on social media, it is found that people tend to trust accounts with more followers compared to the ones with less followers. So, having more followers can help you to build trustworthiness and strong branding. But this might not always be true!
2. Having more followers can help your content to go viral real quick. For example, Whenever you post a pin, it gets shown to your followers. So, if you post a pin about a topic that is either trending or highly searched on the platform, then your followers will watch and react to it, giving it an early engagement boost which can help your pin to go viral in no time. I have seen this happen with my own pins multiple times.
These were some importance or benefits of having more followers on Pinterest. Now, let’s see how to grow them.

1. Optimize Your Profile
To grow followers, first you need to optimize your Pinterest profile. This is the most crucial step to gain followers.
You need to have a clean and clear logo, a name and bio that tells who you are and what type of content you post. Your account name must have at least 2-3 words in it. First is your brand name, and rest 2 or 3 should be the keywords you create content about.
Every time someone clicks on your pin, your account name gets displayed as well. So, if you have a clear account name, then the chances of that viewer converting into a follower increases. Just by seeing your account name, they can figure out who you are and what you post. So, if they are interested in the type of content you create, then there is a high chance that they will follow you.

2. Post Video Pins
Video Pins previously called idea pins works the best to grow and gain followers in my opinion. In comparison to image pins, video pins perform far better and gets more impressions and engagements on Pinterest.
In most of my accounts, I gained more than half of my followers through video pins.
Now, you may think, how do I create a video pin? I don’t have any idea about video editing. Don’t you worry! You don’t need to create an actual video. What you can do is, create an image pin as usual. Take it to a video editing software, import it to timeline and that’s it! After you import it to timeline, a 3-5 second video clip is ready to be exported and used.
If you know even ‘v’ about video editing, then you know what we just did. You don’t need an actual video to post on Pinterest. You need a pin in video format. And in the above step, we converted an image file into video file.
After your video is ready, post it as usual. Then wait for your results to arrive. Posting a single video pin won’t work. So, make sure to post them time and often.
3. Create Content about Trending & Seasonal Topics
Another best way to gain followers is to create content about trending and seasonal topics. Such topics have high chances to go viral and gain huge amount of followers in no time.
So, keep an eye on the trends in your niche and utilize them to gain more followers for yourself.
Another way is to utilize seasonal trends and topics to gain followers. For example, If Summer is near, create content about it. Then, you have high chances of going viral and gaining followers. Not just summer, you can do it during other seasons, festivals, etc.
4. Focus on SEO
Using keywords through your account i.e. account name, bio, pins and boards can help you to reach more people and gain more followers.
So, before you post content on Pinterest, make sure to do keyword research. Then, use the keywords in your pin. Even in your pin, you can use the keyword in it’s title, description, alt text and even use it as hashtag to increase your chances to go viral.
If you’re a beginner, focus on keywords with less competition no matter what the search volume is. Once you start gaining some traction, then you can focus on bigger keywords.

5. Create Attractive Pins
Creating attractive pins is the only and only way to grow on Pinterest. Even if you have a proper account name, you have done keyword research well and everything else is fine, still your account’s growth depends on the pins you post.
If the pins are clean and conveys the message well, then you’re all set. No one can stop you from growing and gaining followers.
While creating a pin, make sure to add call to actions to it. Call to action increases conversions and a relevant call to action can help you gain tons of followers.

6. Promote Your Pinterest Account
Another effective way to gain followers is to promote your Pinterest account on your blog and other social media platforms.
You can add a Pinterest follow button on your blog to convert your blog readers into Pinterest followers. And if you have a good amount of following on other social media platforms, then you can ask your followers to follow you on Pinterest as well. This way, you can gain followers by cross promoting your Pinterest accounts on other platforms.
7. Post Consistently
The most crucial step to succeed in any field is by being consistent. Even on Pinterest, you need to be consistent on your posting schedule to grow and gain followers.
Posting consistently helps to build a momentum which brings a flood of growth in your viewers and followers in a matter of time. Yeah, it takes some time but the wait will be worth it. Believe me! I have gone through it all.
